The Dyad Health Collective was started in 2025 by Dr. Diana Pontell, a board-certified pediatrician and lactation consultant who envisioned a new model for post-partum care for the mother-infant dyad. The Dyad Health Collective aims to bridge a gap in care by providing physician level breastfeeding and lactation medicine consulting services in the Nashville area, with both in-home and virtual visits for maximum ease and convenience during the “fourth trimester”.

Our Mission

Hello

Diana Pontell MD, IBCLC

I first became interested in breastfeeding medicine after having my first child at the end of my pediatric residency, despite my level of education and training in pediatric medicine,  I realized I had big gaps in the practical application of breastfeeding:

  • What are the different types of breast pumps?

  • How do I measure a flange?

  • When do I start pumping?

  • How often?

  • Do I need to change my diet?

  • What are all the different types of nursing positions and where do I start?

I was fortunate that my two sons were born healthy and full term, and that I had access to the knowledge and the support of incredible clinical mentors and peers that were able to guide me during my breastfeeding journey. However, I know through caring for my own patients and witnessing the journeys of loved ones that finding adequate breastfeeding support is not easy. Women often feel alone in trying to navigate their personal infant feeding goals among the complicating factors of premature birth, underlying medical complexities, perinatal mental health concerns, and the demands of work/travel and family life.

Through all these experiences I realized there is SO MUCH to be shared about human milk- from the first latch to the squirmy toddler. I received my International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification in 2023, and I am currently in the process of working towards a second board certification from the North American Board of Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine (NAABLM), joining an emerging group of medical professionals with advanced education and expertise in Breastfeeding Medicine in the United States.

I am here to help you feed your baby
